Entropy and temperature of black 3-branes.

چکیده
We consider slightly non-extremal black 3-branes of type IIB supergravity and show that their Bekenstein-Hawking entropy agrees with the counting of states of the Dirichlet 3-brane. The Dirichlet brane excitations are described in terms of the statistical mechanics of a 3+1 dimensional gas of massless open string states. This is essentially the classic problem of black body radiation. The black body temperature is shown to be identical with the temperature of the Hawking radiation. We also construct a solution of type IIB supergravity describing a 3-brane with a nite density of longitudinal momentum. For extremal momentum-carrying 3-branes the horizon area vanishes. This is in agreement with the fact that the BPS entropy of the momentum-carrying Dirichlet 3-branes is not an extensive quantity.

Near-Extremal Black Hole Entropy and Fluctuating 3-Branes
We discuss the known microscopic interpretations of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for configurations of intersecting M-branes. In some cases the entropy scales as that of a massless field theory on the intersection. A different situation, found for configurations which reduce to 1-charge D = 5 black holes or 2-charge D = 4 black holes, is explained by a gas of non-critical strings at their Hag...
متن کاملEffective spatial dimension of extremal non-dilatonic black p-branes and the description of entropy on the world volume
By investigating the critical behavior appearing at the extremal limit of the non-dilatonic, black p-branes in (d+ p) dimensions, we find that some critical exponents related to the critical point obey the scaling laws. From the scaling laws we obtain that the effective spatial dimension of the non-dilatonic black holes and black strings is one, and is p for the non-dilatonic black p-branes. Fo...
متن کاملEntropy of Near-Extremal Black p-branes
We carry out a thorough survey of entropy for a large class of p-branes in various dimensions. We find that the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy may be given a simple world volume interpretation only for the non-dilatonic p-branes, those with the dilaton constant throughout spacetime. The entropy of extremal non-dilatonic p-branes is non-vanishing only for solutions preserving 1/8 of the original sup...
متن کاملThe phase transition of corrected black hole with f(R) gravity
In this letter, we consider static black hole in f(R) gravity. We take advantage from corrected entropy and temperature and investigate such black hole. Finally, we study the $ P - V $ critically and phase transition of corrected black hole with respect to entropy and temperature. Here also, we obtain the heat capacity for the static black hole in $ f(R) $ gravity. This calculation help us...
متن کاملExtremal Branes as Elementary Particles
The supersymmetric p-branes of Type II string theory can be interpreted after compactification as extremal black holes with zero entropy and infinite temperature. We show how the p-branes avoid this apparent, catastrophic instability by developing an infinite mass gap. Equivalently, these black holes behave like elementary particles: they are dressed by effective potentials that prevent absorpt...
